Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management Scale, Points 4 - 10, 44,411 - 52,224 per annum 37 hrs per week 30 per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays Local Government Pension/Teaching Pension scheme To drive and oversee the College?s commitment to Health & Safety and to own and lead the development of the Colleges? Lead and direct all Health (well-being) and Safety initiatives, providing specialist technical guidance and direction to the College to ensure the H&S Policy and Strategy are fit for purpose To ensure the College is compliant with all legal requirements. To manage the H&S Team To actively manage accident & incident reporting and ensure any resulting investigation actions are implemented Work closely with the Campus Services Estates team to ensure the safety & regulatory compliance of all staff, contractor & 3rd party work activities To support & promote compliance activities in all areas of the College as required through indirect leadership and influence To ensure that all high-risk areas in the College are actively supported, monitored and audited To work with Campus Services Team and partners, such as Local Authorities and recycling organisations, to develop energy and waste reduction programmes. To support HR in providing comprehensive occupational health support when required To prepare comprehensive timely reports for the Governing Body To be a key member of the College H&S Strategic Committee and produce reports and updates as appropriate Work with the Campus Services team to support the delivery of efficiencies in energy & utility consumption To ensure that the College?s emergency procedures are maintained and reviewed, procedures tested, and records of equipment kept. To ensure that the requirements of all College policies and procedures are met including off site activities, work placement, field trips and sub-contracting arrangements. Review and recommend accreditations linked to HSES (ISO 14001/45001) To engage and co-ordinate with staff and stakeholders on the testing and delivery of business continuity plans Take the lead in collating data and producing reports for all Environmental, Health & Safety matters Qualifications Essential - NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Essential - Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent). Desirable - chartered status Desirable - A qualification at degree level in a relevant discipline A commitment to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role. Knowledge & Skills Comprehensive understanding and awareness of health, environmental and safety legislation and factors relating to managing and improving buildings and outside areas. Understanding of benchmarking trends and standards across FE & industry including implementation and analysis Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with staff at all levels across the College. Ability to think creatively and to use initiative to solve problems in potentially variable and diverse situations Ability to take responsibility for quality and accuracy of data. A good knowledge and competence in using IT packages, including the Microsoft Office suite (Teams/O365) and prepared to learn new packages as required. Experience Broad experience of undertaking environment management and improvements in public and/or private sector operations including implementation of a sustainability strategy Extensive experience of managing Health and Safety within a large organisation Proven success in working across different sites and departments to ensure consistency
